Disclaimer
Effective Date: May 2026. Please read this disclaimer carefully. It limits our liability and explains your sole responsibility for data preservation.
1. "AS-IS" Software Clause
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
By using PrivNote, you acknowledge that bugs, software updates, or browser limitations may cause unexpected behavior, and the developer holds no liability for such occurrences.
2. Absolute Data Loss & No Recovery
Because PrivNote employs strict Zero-Knowledge encryption, there are no "backdoors" or password recovery mechanisms. If you lose or forget your encryption password, your data is permanently unrecoverable.
You accept complete responsibility for memorizing your passwords or storing them safely in a dedicated password manager. The developers cannot bypass this encryption under any circumstances, including legal requests.
3. Browser-Level Wipe Policy
PrivNote stores data locally in your browser's IndexedDB. This data can be permanently erased by:
- Clearing your browser cache or site data.
- Operating System updates or browser updates that flush local storage.
- Using restrictive incognito or private browsing modes.
It is entirely your responsibility to perform regular Universal Backups (either locally or via cloud sync) to prevent data loss. We are not liable for browser-induced data deletion.
4. Third-Party Platform Liability
If you choose to sync your backups using the Telegram Bot API or GitHub API, you are interacting with third-party platforms. PrivNote is not responsible or liable if:
- Telegram or GitHub blocks, bans, or restricts your account.
- Their APIs experience downtime or rate-limit your requests.
- Data is leaked due to a breach or misconfiguration on their platforms.
